Sleeves were moderated by 1900, but bodices did not conform to the figure. They swelled over the bust line to be gathered up by a waist band the typically announced a shallow vee waistline. The bodice protruded forward so the skirt protruded backwards with assistance from corsets to form an S silhouette.
