Norway and Sweden were united until 1905 when the Norwegians elected by plebescite to end the union. They turned to a Glucksberg, Carl, to become King. Carl, who became King Haakon VII, was married to Edward and Alexandra's daughter Maud making her Queen-Consort of Norway.
She was not beautiful like her sister Victoria, but she knew how to dress. She married Prince Charles of Denmark who was invited to become King of Norway in 1905 when Norway voted to separate from Sweden. He became King Haakon VII and she became Queen Maud. A large piece of Antarctica is named Queen Maud Land.
