According to her Wikipedia article, Sophie was around royalty her entire life. She married Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand morganatically in 1900. They went on a goodwill visit to Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina where they were assassinated on 28 June 1914, an event launching World War I and turning the twentieth century into the "Violent Century."
