She was one of the Sun King's numerous mistresses. She was involved in an accident that forced her to create a lace and ribbon headdress. This was the first Fontanges headdress, described in her Wikipedia article. The Fontanges headdress, seen frequently in the next Album, was the hallmark of feminine dress of the late Louis XIV era.
