1841 Comtesse de La Tour-Maubourg, née Marie-Louise-Charlotte-Gabrielle Thomas de Pange, by Théodore Chassériau (Metropoltan Museum)

This is a wonderful example of dressy day dress as worn in 1841 with tiered engageantes and a tiered bertha. She may be using a scarf or handkerchief to emphasize her bertha. Her dress almost surely has a vee waistline.
