Empress of Austria and her Ladies

This is from The Illustrated London News, probably from the late 1870s or early 1880s based on the gowns - the tablier fronts and the lack of bustles. According to dboro on the Alexander Palace Time Machine Discussion Forum on 16 May 2007, this image is available in Hungary, but the actual date of the original is unknown. I cannot source this image.

This shows an array of fashionable necklines. The Empress wears a sweetheart neckline, two ladies wear square necklines, two wear off shoulder necklines, and some wear high necklines. The Empress and some ladies are in evening gowns while some are in high necked long sleeved day dresses. The ladies wearing evening gowns also wear gloves. A few ladies have straight hair, but most have curly hair.
