Maria Carolina of the Two Sicilies, Countess of Montemolin by Franz Eybl (auctioned by Sotheby's)

Maria Carolina turns out to be a common name pair. This Maria Carolina was born in 1820 and died with her husband Carlos and Carlos' brother Fernando in Trieste in 1861. According to her Wikipedia article, she attempted to nurse her typhus-striken husband back to health, contracted the disease, and the pair died within a few hours of each other.

Maria Carolina is dressed in a somber black dress with a bow at the apex of her vee neckline and a vee waistline. She appears to be wearing a lace wrap over quarter length sleeves. If her dress has a bertha, it is of black lace and not readily discernible.
