1855 Princesses Victoria and Alice at Osborne

Princess Royal Victoria and her younger sister Princess Alice pose at the family retreat Osborne on the Isle of Wight in this 1855 photo. Their children Alexandra, as wife of Tsar Nicholas II, and Kaiser Wilhelm would fight against each other, but fall at about the same time as a result of World War I. Alice lost two daughters to the Bolshevik revolurion - Grand Duchess Elisabeth and Tsaritsa Alexandra. Victoria's oldest son, Kaiser Wilhelm, went off to exile in the Netherlands.

The sleves of their chemisettes are about to burst out of their jacket sleeves.
