ca. 1855 Arrival of H. M. the Queen to the Palais de Saint-Cloud by Charles-Louis Müller (Royal Collection)

This shows how two Ladies with access to top-of-the-line dress, Queen Victoria and Empress Eugénie, dressed by day to meet in 1855. Queen Victoria brought her children while the Prince Imperial was a year in the future. Seeing Victoria with all of her children may have made Napoleon III think about the need for an heir.

Queen V ictoria and the Empress were lifelong friends. When ousted, the Bonapartes moved to Farnborough in the UK. Farnborough is now known for its biennial air show.
