1854 Pauline Metternich by Hermann Krone

According to her Wikipedia article, "She was an important promoter of the work of the German composer Richard Wagner and the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana." She also brought Empress Eugénie's attention to Charles Frederick Worth's fashion house, launching Chez Worth and haute couture.

Pauline Metternich may be wearing one of the earliest cage crinolines in this 1854 photograph by Krone. I see no evidence of petticoats and the bottom skirt looks like it is being supported from beneath.
