1795 Princess Caroline of Wales wearing court dress

This is Princess of Wales Charlotte's mother.

This illustration shows what court dress was like, an attempt to retain the opulence of the ancien régime and what it stood for, in 1795. The vee waistline is gone and the waistline is set very high showing the influence of Directoire style infiltrating court dress. The over-skirt is also gone.
