Mademoiselle Recamier by Antoine-Jean Gros (Galeria, Zagreb Croatia)

The legendary Madame Récamier appears to have aged and has dressed thoroughly for colder weather in this Gros portrait. Her lace neck ruff was called a fraise. The waistline sweeps up in the middle to frame her bust, a characteristic of dress from about 1815 to about 1820.

Keywors:  Gros, Madame Récamier, French, cap, lace, high neckline, fraise, long close sleeves, cuffs, high waistline, bows, wrap
