ca. 1860 (estimated) Charlotte of Belgium sitting while wearing a crinoline

Princess Charlotte poses in a full crinoline day dress in this Ghemar brothers photo. This was photographed no later than the early 1860s, based on the pagoda sleeves and very full crinoline. Also note the photographers are based in Brussels, suggesting an earlier date. However, a more mature Maximillian and Charlotte are seen in the next picture with Charlotte wearing the same dress.

Designers and modistes took full advantage of the huge surfaces offered by the cage crinoline - including expanding sleeves to match the big round skirts. She wears a paisley shawl.
