1767 Baroness Elizabeth Amherst, née Cary (1740-1830) by Sir Joshua Reynolds (auctioned by Sotheby's)

Her husband, Field Marshal Jeffrey Amherst, is honored by place names throughout Canada and the USA. He served in the French hostilities in North America, but stayed out of fighting the rebel forces south of Canada. Her article in thepeerage is here.

Baroness Amherst wears later century British casual dress with a fur-lined wrap and jeweled headdress that show she is important. Her coiffure is similar to the late 1800s-early 1900s bouffant coiffures.
