1785 Marie-Antoinette by Élisabeth-Louise Vigée-Lebrun (Konopiste Castle, Praha Czech Republic)
The big peplum flaring back from Marie-Antoinette's jacket in this
1885 Vigée-Lebrun portrait was characteristic of the era. Her dress appears
simple, save for the lace, fur trim, and the pearl rope or ropes in the rolled
base of her hat. She appears to be wearing a wide triangular collar or mantle
of otherwise plain material trimmed with lace.
