Princess of Wales Caroline Caroline Wilhelmina of Brandenburg-Ansbach by Sir Godfrey Kneller after 1716 original with Royal Collection (National Portrait Gallery, London)

This 1716 Kneller portrait dates from when Caroline of Ansbach was Princess of Wales. George I became King in 1714, making her George Duke of Cornwall and Prince of Wales, and died in 1727 making her George and herself King and Queen.

Caroline’s dress in this 1716 Kneller work closely resembles the dress of Queens Anne and Mary in previous royal portraits. Queen Caroline wears a curl above each eye in turn of the century style.
