1766-1767 Juliane Marie of Denmark by Johann Georg Ziesenis (Danish Royal Collection, Frederiksborg Slot)
Juliane Marie, shown here
in 1776-7, deposed and banished the existing insane King's wife from Denmark
and executed her Danish lover. Then she installed Frederik on the throne and ruled
through him to protect the interests of the aristocracy.
Juliane
Marie's dress is made of solely of white or pale gray material with special
attention paid to the sleeves where long inner sleeves, something like
Renaissance false sleeves end in two frilled cuffs and start from the
engageantes of what look like outer sleeves. The only color relief is her black
mantlet.
