Stephanie of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringer married King Pedro V of Portugal in 1858 and died from diptheria a year later. pedro V died of cholera in 1861. The most interesting aspect of this was the Prusso-Portuguese exchange where Lutherans and Catholics married (see the subalbum about Infanta Antonia here). I am guessing that this was to offset the Borbon-Bourbon relationship of Spain and France, religion being adopted as needed to suit national needs. Her Wikipedia article is here.
