This is a wonderful illustration of a well-fitted 1885 day dress worn by Queen María Cristina seated by her uniformed husband Alfonso XII. 1885 was a year when full bustles were back in favor and a substantial bustle can be seen behind her making her sit maybe 15 cm from the back of her chair. Her over-skirt probably draped as a tablier when she stood up.
