1652-1653 Infanta Maria Teresa by Diego Rodriguez de Silva y Velazquez (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Wien)

For more about her as Queen of France, see this subalbum.

This is the lavish style of the expanded saya at the Spanish court, as evidenced by residual false sleeves. The expanded skirts are a preview of the paniers of the next century and are covered by overskirts that droop furthest down below the head. Her coiffure is expanded to match her skirt. She wears something that looks like a red-edged ruff that rests above a row of pearls that marks her apparent neckline, lined by a bertha.
