Infanta Catalina wears a black saya with gold and white false sleeves in this Coello portrait from about 1585.

This is strongly reminiscent of Isabel de Valois' gown in Coello's 1565 portrait of her. The columns of jewels work with the vee-shaped girdle to create a thinner line while conveying an impression of wealth, just as with Isabel de Valois. Her bodice and sleeves appear to be made of black satin while her skirt is made of black patterned material. Contrasting black materials form stripes on her bodice, sleeves, and skirt. The hanging sleeves are not nearly as massive as they appear to be in many portraits, such as those of Anna of Austria. The coiffure and hat designs will recur in a famous portrait of Isabel Clara Eugenia later in this album.
