1631 Katheryn Spiller, Lady Reynell by Cornelius Johnson (Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museum Wales - Cardiff, Wales, UK) From artuk.org

Here is a Royalis Lady in stern Rembrandtian black with decoration limited to edging of the ruff and cuffs. This is a great example of paned virago sleeves. She could be wearing a stomacher framed by a jacket seen on portraits of Henrietta Maria, but in somber black. There is a small patch of lace above the ornamental bow in the center of her neckline that looks like the source of a short pearl necklace.

Keywords:  1631, Johnson, Katheryn Spiller, Katheryn Reynell, Lady Reynell, British, straight coiffure, bandeau, chignon, partlet, high enclosing neckline, neck ruff, jeweled and lace ornament, bodice, crescent neckline, bows, collar, paned virago sleeves, cuffs, waist band, shallow vee waistline, close skirt
