Description: Photograph of Queen Victoria facing three quarters left. She wears a shawl and a lace cap. The photographic session between the royal couple and photographer John Mayall on 15 May 1860 was an important occasion: for the first time, the photographs of the Queen were published. The public had never seen or been able to buy a photograph of the Queen before and once on sale, the images were extremely popular.
