Elizabeth Murray (1626-1698), Duchess of Lauderdale

Lady Elizabeth has gone north to marry again to the Earl of Lauderdale and the National Galleries of Scotland state that the high backed chair she sits in and the parrot on her more distant hand are symbols of wealth and social standing. The lace used for more than trimming her chemise and the brocades used for her over-dress and skirt are status symbols too.
