Anne-Catherine de Ligniville, Madame Helvétius by Louis-Michel van Loo (location ?) Wm X 1.25

This lovely dress is unusual for having long tight under-sleeves instead of engageantes. The ruched serpentines may or may not be robings. Her bodice appears to have a shadowed sacque back and her busy stomacher appears to have bows arranged en échelle. The somewhat high coiffure serves to date this to the middle 1760s. Her skirt is decorated with ornaments that look like order of the golden fleece jewels.
