Doña María Teresa wears a lovely mantlet made of black lace over a robe à la circassienne in this Goya portrait from around 1783. The robe à la circassienne was sister to the robe à la polonaise, the difference being a polonaise had three pouffs while a circassiene had just one, as can be seen here. Her mantlet obscures most of her bodice, but a white vee waistline is visible. A modesty piece probably fills in that deep vee waistline.
