1837 Aurora Demidova by Karl Brullov (location unknown to gogm)

This Lady is a Finn, Aurora Karamzin, who married two Russian Princes and became involved in philanthropy after the death of her second husband. Wikipedia's article about her states, "...Aurora used her immense wealth, inherited from her first husband, to create benefactory institutions in Helsinki, such as schools, public kitchens, and the Deaconess Institution of Helsinki. She was a great benefactor in many cities such as St. Petersburg and Florence..." She was married to Pavel Demidov from 1836 until he died in 1840 so this is a portraut of Mrs. Demidov. She was born in 1808 and died in 1902, being born before and outliving Queen Victoria. Her Wikipedia article is here.

Princess Aurora wears a white satin dress trimmed with gold and a turban. Her skirt is brocade and the engageantes are plain, but echo Russian sleeves by being notched.
