I visited Russia in 2008 and our guide in St. Petersburg, Irina, was an ardent Russian nationalist and may have been an unrepentant Communist. While we were visiting, hot heads in the Bush administration thought about going to war with Russia over Georgia (the one not associated with Newt Gingrich) - you know - to finish up unfinished Cold War business. Now the Russians seem to be trying to finish up unfinished Cold War business by playing footsie with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. What's that got to do with Countess Sofia Andreievna Bobrinskaia? I am having trouble finding about these Russian Ladies - a great deal of Russian history is essentially inaccessible. There has to be a great deal of very interesting history missing from Western eyes as the Cold War version 2 plays out. I cannot find out anyhing about this Lady.
