This specimen exemplifies pre War fashion - it is sleek compared to bustle or Victorian dresses, but it is still complex compared to post-War dresses. It still has a high neckline ornamented by a ruff that fills in for the even higher necklines that were de rigueur a few years earlier. The waist band is a braided cummerbund. The over-garment just beneath the belt could be an extension of the blouse or an over-skirt.
