Alexandra's dress has a round natural waistline that was unusual for 1894, but her tight leg-o-mutton sleeves are more conventional. Her slashed bodice may lack buttons, but her sleeves are buttoned. Her bodice harkens back to the 1500s with slashing. There is another truly remarkable tonsorial note - Nicholas is wearing civvies.
