1595 Lady Eleanor Herbert by ? (Powis Castle)
lady Eleanor Herbert displays a wheel farthingale with big puffed sleeves in this 1595 portrait.
Richly patterned fabric, puffed sleeves, and a wheel farthingale with deeply pointed bodice were not just for the Queen. In this portrait, it looks as if each sleeve has a capelet depending from it. She either wears gloves or has a very good henna treatment on her hands. Gloves were a luxury for the rich at that time. She appears to wear a straight coiffure.
