The Pinterest note with this image states, “...Elizabeth Drury, Lady Burghley, is portrayed in black with a jewelled locket with the monogram RD. She probably commissioned the painting as a mourning portrait after her brother Robert Drury died in 1615. Black was however also a fashionable colour for a lady at the time."
