1606 Lucy Harrington, Countess of Bedford in a masquerade costume designed by Inigo Jones by John de Critz the Elder (private collection) Wm

This image was originally included on 13 July 2011 because of Lucy Harrington's almost midi-length skirt. Her sleeves have spiral decorations while her ruff has a triangular shape after rising from her scoop neckline. Her skirt is flattened at the top - maybe a nod to the wheel or French farthingale. Her dress may also have a stomacher in the form of a flattened vee under an inverted vee; this may also be the result of wearing a jacket over her bodice. A sheer veil decorated with lines of loops swells out behind her.
