1600 Marie de Medici wedding by Peter Paul Rubens - painted 1622-1625 (Musée du Louvre - Paris France)

This is one of a set of Rubens portraits commemorating the life of Marie de Medici, second wife of French King Henri IV - this painting portrays her wedding in 1600. She commissioned Peter Paul Rubens to create a set of paintings to put the best possible spin on her reign. She served as regent during the youth of her son, Louis XIII. She was not the sharpest knife in the drawer; maybe this is part of the reason for her deciding to glam' up her life. Her Wikipedia article is here.

The Wikipedia article for super star artist Peter Paul Rubens is here.

Here we are with a ruff, though not the huge super-ruffs seen on Brigida Spinola Doria or Maria Serra Pallavicino, false sleeves, and what may be a tabbed bodice and jeweled ornaments, such as aiglets, on her skirt. She is not wearing a wheel farthingale.
