ca. 1533 Catherine de Medicis, reine de France as when she arrived in France by Corneille de Lyon studio (Versailles)

This is a portrait by Corneille de Lyon of Catherine de Medici wearing black and white dress and a pink and black French hood.

This is part of her Wikipedia article;  "...Catherine was not destined to be a beauty. On her visit to Rome, the Venetian envoy described her as "small of stature, and thin, and without delicate features, but having the protruding eyes peculiar to the Medici family". Suitors, however, lined up for her hand; and when in early 1531 Francis I of France proposed his second son, Henri, duc d'Orléans. Clement jumped at the offer. Henri was a prize catch for Catherine, who despite her wealth was a commoner..."

Then, as now in the less-than-hallowed halls of today's USA Congress, money talks!
