Catherine of Aragon's and Henry VIII's daughter, she attempted to restore Roman Catholicism to England, earning her a less than wonderful reputation. She was, after Maria Manuela de Portugal, King Felipe's second wife. The prospect of joining the far flung Habsburg realm at the northwestern fringes may have been as disconcerting to many, particularly among the nobility, as enforced Catholicism.
