1861 (estimated) Elizabeth Wellesley, née Hay, Duchess of Wellington

Detail-enhanced by gogm.

The Duchess of Wellington is dressed for a ceremonial occasion, maybe opening Parliament, in this picture. While this looks like a wedding dress, it isn't. This is because she married in 1839 while this dress is ca. 1860 high crinoline style. She was Mistress of the Robes to Queen Victoria from 1861-8 and again from 1874-1880. Queen Victoria plunged into lifelong mourning in December 1861 with the loss of her husband, so this picture was probably taken earlier in 1861.
