Queen Victoria poses in full dress amid royal regalia and a lavish jewelry in this 1859 Winterhalter portrait. Maybe she or her advisers felt it was necessary to keep up with the Bonapartes and the Habsburgs. She was often portrayed dressed up, but never like this.
