Her story shows how fleeting the alliances created by dynastic marriages can be. She died in 1912 and Germany invaded Belgium in 1914. She was the daughter of Princess Josephine of Baden. Her daughter Henriette married the Duke of Vendome; aughter Joséphine Caroline married Karl Anton von Hohenzollern and lived through both World Wars; and son King Albert I of Belgium married Elisabeth of Bavaria.
