ca. 1598 Isabella Clara Eugenia by Frans Pourbus the Younger (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum - Boston, Massachusetts USA)

The Gardner Museum is a reproduction Italian Renaissance villa once owned by Isabella Stewart Gardner, a tycoon's wife in the USA's first gilded age. She was an avid art collector who built and opened the Museum while she was still alive.

Isabel's head seems to float in her huge ruff sitting atop its supportasse and her saya made with intricately detailed brocade. The dress appears to be un-jeweled and slashing is limited to thin strips on her bodice and hanging sleeves. The manner in which the over-dress opens up over the bodice can be seen here.
