ca. 1568 Elisabeth de Valois by Anthonis Mor (Louvre?) head

The jeweled cap, ruff, and carcanet necklace shown in Mor's portrait of Isabel Valois of about 1568.

This shows the thick collar of her over-dress, in this case with tabbed edges. The collar has a white lining visible at lower right. Beneath that is her ruff, while a carcanet-type necklace, typically bulky for the era, marks where the neck begins. She wears a spectacular jeweled cap adorned with with quartets of pearls and a few well-placed pendant pear drop pearls.
