1866-1867 "Peplum" ball gown with crinoline and train worn by Empress Eugénie

From weheartit.com/entry/8912282#; enlarged one sixth by gogm.

This dress illustrates the beginning of the end of the crinoline era. The vee waistline is gone and the dress is in the shape of a half-cone with a roundness in back presaging bustles. The vee waistline of a separate bodice is gone, replaced by a natural waistline and a single-piece bodice and dress. The over-skirt is accented by a layer of sheer material over the flounced under-skirt.
