Archduchess Valerie

This was posted to Foro Dinastias with an apologetic note by Katyusha on 28 October 2011 because the image is heavily mottled, probably a storage artifact. I tried evening out the mottling with Photoshop. I then neutralized most of the background and also smoothed out the mottling on Valerie's face, but not elsewhere on her dress or hands, with Photoshop.

The open-work collar, waistline, and cuffs make this portrait worth preserving. She appears to be wearing gloves with gauntlets matching her collar, but they appear to be cuffus with maybe 10 cm of additional sleeves before the hands emerge. Dating this is difficult with the slightly-swollen sleeves, but the distinct vee waistline suggests the early 1890s.

Keywords:  Archduchess Marie Valerie, Habsburg family, Archduchess, braided coiffure, high enclosing neckline, long close leg-o-mutton sleeves, cuffs, vee waistline, bustle, close skirt, fan
