This figure is familiar to Americans - a Pilgrim woman, but the blackwork sleeves and pattern on the skirt are more elaborate than the women of American folklore. Lady Hawkins is presumably a Puritan in the religious turmoil rife in England in 1620.

Keywords:  1620, Lady Hawkins, straight coiffure, hat, neck ruff, high enclosing neckline, long full sleeves, back-flared cuffs, slashed sleeves, vee waistline, under-skirt
