Anne and little Louis XIV

Little Louis was born in 1638, so this dates to maybe 1641.

Anne wears dress that was on the verge of becoming passé with a broad lace collar, wide-set basque waistline, and back-flared engageantes. Her broad lace collar was adopted again and again as the bertha, usually with some gathering and sometimes made of plain fabric instead of lace. Her coiffure - straight on top and curly on the sides reached its zenith with hurluberlu coiffures during later in the century. The sides of her bodice are held over her stomacher with three jeweled clasps.
