1622-1627 Portrait of a Genoese Noblewoman (also called Paola Adorno) by Sir Anthonis van Dyck (Frick Collection, New York City)

This lady wears a white and gold dress similar to that worn by Marchesa Giovanna Cattaneo in her portrait from the same time, also by van Dyck.

This comes close to being a duplicate of the last image, except she wears a deeply-goffered ruff and matching cuffs. It is very unlikely that her skirt was supported by a farthingale.

Keywords:  1622, van Dyck, Italian, high enclosing neckline, ruff, basque bodice, saya, hanging sleeves, cuffs, false sleeves, long puffed sleeves, full skirt
