ca. 1606 Princess Elizabeth by Robert Peake (Metropolitan Museum) detail

This closeup shows the ruff and hair jewelry worn by Princess Elizabeth, later Queen of Bohemia in her 1606 Peake portrait.

Elizabeth's youngest daughter, Sophia of Hanover married future Elector of Hanover Ernest Augustus in 1658. The Electress Sophia became the nearest Protestant relative to the English, Scottish and Irish crowns (later British crown). Under the English Act of Settlement, the succession was settled on Sophia and her issue, so that all monarchs of Great Britain from George I through today are her descendants.

In this rendition of tabbed sleeves, the tabs are joined.
